Flat BrokeOne worth keeping
“Poor as Job's turkey.”
Poorer than the poorest man in the Bible — even his bird was skinny.
In the same vein
All Flat Broke →Dirt poor — even the crumbs are spoken for.
Can't afford nice things, won't stoop to cheap ones.
As broke as a family can get.
Got nothing — not even the free stuff.
Completely out of money.
Getting by on the cheapest food there is.
